You’ve done your bit.
You’ve learned the systems, supported the advisers and chased the providers. You’ve kept admin moving and become someone the business relies on.
So why does the next step still feel miles away?
If you’re a financial planning administrator who wants to move towards paraplanning, this role gives you a proper pathway rather than vague promises which never seem to come off.
You’ll start in administration because that’s where the need is now. That means tasks like annual review letters, letters of authority, updating client records, provider liaison and general adviser support.
But that’s not where things have to stay.
The firm currently wants to bring more of their paraplanning work back in-house. So if you have ambitions to become a paraplanner, they can give you the exposure, support and development to move in that direction.
And that could be your opportunity.
As you grow in the role you’ll get more involvement in the advice process, more client exposure and more technical work. You’ll learn from experienced people, build your knowledge properly and develop beyond pure administration. They’ll also support you with your exams and give you study leave.
You’ll also be treated like an adult. They trust people to do a good job wherever they are so they offer hybrid working. You’ll also get a salary of up to £32,500, pension, Death in Service and your birthday off.
What you’ll need
You’ll ideally already be working as an administrator within a financial planning firm.
You don’t need years and years of experience, but you do need a good grounding in the basics. That might include annual review preparation, provider contact, letters of authority, client servicing, valuations, meeting preparation or general adviser support.
You’ll also need to be good with people, as you’ll get increasing exposure to clients as you develop.
Experience within a St. James’s Place Partner practice would be useful, but it isn’t essential.
What matters most is that you’re interested in becoming a paraplanner and want a role where that ambition is actually taken seriously.
