What is a Claims Technician?

A claims technician handles a portfolio of claims from inception to settlement, or acts an intermediary between the policy holder and insurance company if they work for an Insurance Broker. A claims technician handles the claim throughout its lifespan and liaises with all parties concerned, which can include the third party insurers / loss adjusters / claims investigators / solicitors etc. A claims technician deals with the relevant documentation, ensures that the process runs smoothly, that the insurance company / solicitor settles in the correct manner, and that the client receives compensation as quickly as possible.

Typical tasks for a claims technician includes:

  • Handling either personal or commercial claims (including personal injury if applicable)
  • Liaising with the insured party – third party (if applicable)
  • Instructing loss adjusters / claims investigators
  • Ensuring a fair settlement for the client in the event of a claim
  • Communicating with both sides to ensure that the client is receiving good service
  • Advising clients on insurance issues in general.
